The Neocaridina Davidi , more commonly called the Rili green shrimp, is very popular with aquarists for its dark blue color. This pretty shrimp from Asia measures 2-3cm. Like most Neocaridina, it is best to avoid mixing varieties to preserve its blue color. To ensure the right balance, favor neutral soil and a minimum of 10 individuals in a 20-litre aquarium . It is also necessary to provide hiding places and many plants in the aquarium (Example: java moss) to avoid stressing them.
Like the red cherry , the Rili green is a detritivore, that is to say that it feeds on small algae, dead plants, but also fish carcasses. It also appreciates dry food (granules, flakes, etc.) but also live food such as brine shrimp.
The female has a wider abdomen than the male. The female reproduces only after a moult and when the ovarian sac is developed (orange-yellow spot behind the head). This develops at sexual maturity (3-4 months of life). After mating, her ovarian sac descends below her abdomen and eggs are formed in it (coloration varies depending on maintenance conditions). Then, the female will oxygenate the eggs by stirring them for an average of 25 days of incubation. Once the juveniles are formed, the female expels them from her abdomen.
This aquarium shrimp is easy to maintain. Here is a range of water parameters:
