The species is distinguished from all other species of spotted Boraras known to date by sexual dichromatism. Males of Boraras nevus develop a much larger shoulder patch than females.
As far as breeding is concerned, the charming dwarfs do not differ in any way from their congeners. They should be kept in small, well-planted aquarium with dark soil in soft, acidic water. Under these conditions, dwarf rasboras live surprisingly long lives. Boraras nevus reaches a maximum length of 1.5-2 cm.
Lexicon: Boraras: Boraras: anagram of Rasbora, referring to the inverse ratio of the abdominal and caudal vertebrae in Boraras to Rasbora. nevus: Latin, means "spot" or "mark on the skin"; refers to the prominent spot on the shoulder of the species.
