Pithecellobium dulce is a tree species of the Fabaceae family, a subfamily of the Mimosoideae. In Réunion, the tree is called Indian Tamarind and sometimes Indian Tamarind. In New Caledonia it is called Campèche or Faux bois de Campeche.
The species is native to Mexico, Central America and northern South America. It has been introduced and naturalized in the Caribbean, Florida, Guam and in Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines. It is considered invasive in Hawaii.
