CloseAquatic plant of the Araceae family, native to Borneo. It is known for its unique, tough, brown-colored leaves, which are often used for ornamental purposes in the aquarium hobby. The leaves are small, usually a few centimeters long, and arranged in a rosette. It is a slow growing plant that prefers a shady or low light environment, and does not require high levels of nutrients to thrive. It can be attached to rocks, driftwood or planted in the substrate.
Due to its unique leaf color and small size, Bucephalandra sp. "Brownie" is often used as a foreground or middle plant in aquascaping. It can also be used in terrariums or vivariums where it can cling to surfaces. It is not considered a difficult plant to care for, but it is sensitive to changes in water parameters, especially pH fluctuations.
